At the Coral Junction, two channels argued about which way the current wanted to go. Nico put the map in his pocket and let a small line of buoys ask the first question.
The channels looked alike
One side shone blue, the other looked almost pink under the cliffs. Nico watched both until a tiny wake appeared in the narrower branch.
A cast between colours
The lure crossed the boundary without a splash. The bass followed it through the clean water, then turned beside the last buoy as though it had already read the route.
A softer answer
Nico let the fish go at the junction and drew no line on the map. Not every split needs a permanent marker.
